MPs' expenses: most outrageous claim?
MPs from all three of Britain’s major political parties have been forced to defend themselves against allegations of ‘milking the system’ after The Daily Telegraph published expenses claims made by prominent members of each party.
The Labour Party, Conservatives and Liberal Democrats have all been damaged by embarrassing revelations about how their MPs have filed expense claims for large sums spent on gardening, home furnishings, repairs and security.
What do you think is the most outrageous expenses claim? Is it Lib Dem MP Chris Huhne’s seemingly tight-fisted 79p claim for a packet of biscuits? What about Tory MP Douglas Hogg’s £2,000 reimbursement for the cleaning of his moat? Or the slightly surreal claim of £268 for Christmas decorations by Labour MP Vera Baird?
