Twilight Zone (Rewrite)

It feels like we're living in a warp zone or twilight zone or some other kind of altered reality.

By the news (if you can trust any of it to be true on ANY network), the virus is on the rise. I believe it because I know people personally who are getting it and it's much closer to home than it was when the outbreak first started.

We took a quick trip to San Antonio just as the spike was starting. Restaurant dining rooms were closed, masks everywhere, etc. It was fun anyway. The Riverwalk was deserted. Of course, it was 10am when we went, so fairly safe, I'd say. We thoroughly enjoyed the trip. At the Alamo, the barriers and the signs said "due to COVID-19", however, every monument inside the barrier had an extra fence around it. I guess "COVID" is particularly dangerous to monuments. Interestingly, the concierge at the resort said that monuments all over the city had been torn down and vandalized. Say what you want, I don't care. It's lawlessness and it should be prosecuted. We're making so much progress these days. We've managed to defeat a pancake mix, a bottle of syrup, a box of rice, an ice cream bar and two cartoons. Rational people are shaking their heads in amazement. Meanwhile, my kids can't enjoy a totally unrelated piece of history on summer break.

Ok, so this is turning into a blog post about everything...as I stoop to writing about medical conditions. My tongue is on fire. Not literally, but I, the jalapeño king, can no longer eat spicy food. Harmless salsa that I used to consume by the pint now sets my tongue on fire and causes so much pain that I can't even enjoy the meal. I've noticed that nuts and some other foods also cause my tongue to feel sensitive and somewhat swollen. On top of that, there's a swollen spot way in the back that hurts when I brush it. If it's not better in a few days, I may go have it looked at.

Some of you may have to go back and read that last paragraph, if you're still fuming about my protest remarks.

So, in this twilight zone, I'm growing avocado plants from seeds. I'm hanging my hat on this one, but there are three others I'm hoping will sprout, just in case. MAYBE I can bring at least one to maturity. It'll have to be brought in and out of the house as weather changes.

So, the youth camps and campmeetings we usually attend are all canceled for this year. I'm trying to think of creative ways to keep our people connected without exposing them to unnecessary risk. I normally don't travel very far to many of these meetings, but early this year I had filled in a calendar with the dates of many different meetings I was determined to travel and visit. Go figure, the year I decide to get out and about is the year we're all forced to do what I've been doing all along. LOL

Well, I'm signing off. Everyone be safe and use heightened precaution. If you want to get out and about, join a protest. They're immune from COVID-19, but political rallies are not. So stay away from those.

I don't know how churches are handling it, but every time our county's public health director says 'we're going to have to be very creative' I take a sip of wine, so I'm not going to say 'the churches must be very _ _ _ _ _ _ ive.' Out of wine. Hah.

It's been crazy since so much of what we do inside and outside the church is oriented around people being with other people! We've cancelled SO MANY activities. I hope you're well.

Do you have a garden this year? I have 4 squash plants and 2 tomato plants. If we get a ripe tomato we rejoice. I hope you are all wearing masks...it is a good thing. Our trip was cancelled of course so we are staying home and being bored. the king of mexican food can no longer eat habeneros and Jalepenoes? Mercy what has the world come to. You might need to have the tongue looked at if it has become that sensitive. Love to Jennifer and the kids and you.

We haven't done a garden in a few years. I've got 2 pepper plants potted, but not even they are doing well! My tongue recovered, but hot stuff still lights me up. Say hi to Ted for me. I watched the OKC council pass the mask ordinance. I'm all for it, it beats another shut down.

if think there is fake news being put out by the main stream media (CBS, ABC, NBC, etc.) ask yourself why Trump doesn't sue. If he's right and it's fake news, he could win a large settlement. Why doesn't sue instead of just ranting like a 2-year-old? Because you can't sue facts and he would lose in court. You can trust the main stream media. I worked in the field for 30 years. I saw the efforts to keep everything squeaky clean. If it's wrong, a retraction. Don't be taken in by the Orange Fat.
