Governor Sarah Palin

Dear MoveOn member,
This week, Governor Sarah Palin sat down for her first media interview
since she became the Republican nominee for vice president.
She also gave a speech about Iraq. Both of these episodes revealed a
scary picture of the person John McCain chose to be
one heartbeat away from the presidency. Can you help spread the word?
First, Palin set off alarm bells with her Iraq speech. The Washington Post wrote,
"Gov. Sarah Palin linked the war in Iraq with the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks...a view once promoted by Bush administration
officials [that] has since been rejected even by the president himself."1
Then, when ABC's Charlie Gibson asked her opinion on the Bush Doctrine that led us to war in Iraq, it got worse. As the New York Times put it: "Palin most visibly stumbled when she was asked by Mr. Gibson
if she agreed with the Bush doctrine. Ms. Palin did not seem to know what he was talking about. Mr. Gibson, sounding like
an impatient teacher, informed her..."2
Can you write a letter to the editor of local newspapers in your area? Let your neighbors
know that the person McCain chose to be a heartbeat from the presidency doesn't understand the policies or lies that got
us into Iraq.
We can't afford four more years of reckless foreign policy.

The letters section is often the most read part of a newspaper, so spending a couple minutes on a letter today could make
a real difference in persuading voters in your community.
We need to let folks know this isn't just about Sarah Palin—it's about John McCain's judgment. He put politics first
and picked someone who doesn't understand the most critical issues facing our country.
Here's some more of the New York Times article describing Palin's interview with
ABC:

Ms. Palin was clearly caught off guard when Mr. Gibson asked, "Do you
agree with the Bush doctrine?"

Seeking direction, and perhaps time to
formulate an answer, Ms. Palin leaned back, smiled stiffly and said,
"In what respect, Charlie?"

Initially unwilling to define the doctrine, Mr. Gibson said, "What do you interpret it to be?"

Ms. Palin asked, "His world view?"

Mr. Gibson said, "No, the Bush doctrine, enunciated September 2002, before the Iraq war."3
The Atlantic's National Correspondent James Fallows called this a "disqualifying
lack of preparation for the job" and wrote that this "indicates not a failure of last-minute cramming but a lack
of attention to any foreign-policy discussion whatsoever in the last seven years."4
Can you write a letter to the editor of papers in your area today? Let folks know about
McCain's lack of judgment in picking Palin and how dangerous his pick is for our country.

Thanks for all you do.

My, my! I don't quite see what everyone sees in her, but some of them seem completely fascinated. I probably got this MoveOn email, too. I get so many from various outlets that I go over them rather quickly. They pretty much are on the same page...

She appears uninformed. And the charade goes on.

Someone needs to brief Sarah Palin that Russia has thousands of nuclear warheads that can reach the United States? Saying potentially going to war with Russia is like committing suicide? It's no wonder they kept her locked up so long before she spoke to the media?

The spin being placed on the Bush Doctrine question is "well, at least her answer had something to do with foreign policy". So, close counts in horse shoes and the White House?
