However, it is likely that your life has already been touched by many wonderful gifts—both those given to you by the universe and those you earned yourself. The covetousness you feel may be the result of your insecurities, which can lead you to wonder whether your accomplishments to date measure up to those of your colleagues, loved ones, or peers. Before you become jealous, consider that their goals are likely quite different from the aims you have set for yourself, and living a life similar to theirs would likely provide you with little fulfillment.

When we spend a great deal of time contemplating and refining our own personal and professional goals, we feel less inclined to envy those people in our lives who have already accomplished a great deal. While we respect their achievements, we also understand that our path will naturally veer away from the paths others have traveled as our ambitions are uniquely our own. We also recognize that possessions and accolades mean little in the grand scheme of life and that true satisfaction is about enjoying an authentic existence. The energy we might have expended coveting what people in the various spheres of our lives possess is instead dedicated to the search for individualized fulfillment. The envy you felt briefly today will gradually fade as you come to accept that the choices others make will not necessarily represent what is best for you.
