I was flipping around the tube the other night and there was a priest giving a speech to a large audience. He seemed very intelligent, well spoken and he wasn't yelling or screaming or trying to jam his viewpoint down anyone's throat. I attended 8 years of Jesuit Catholic Education and this man reminded me of a Jesuit priest and indeed he was. Jesuits are some of the most scholarly men you would ever meet. It takes 13 years of schooling and study before they are even initiated into priesthood. They are known for being excellent teachers and throughout their history, for going into the poorest communities of the world and spreading their message. Anyway, something he said just stuck with me or resonated with me. He said that all of the world's troubles and problems could be boiled down to Lack of Sacrifice from individuals. Specifically he was talking on the topic of marriage and how necessary sacrifice was to making it work. Our society today sells the opposite message. I started to think about sacrifice and situations where I could have sacrificed or sacrificed more and how it would have made the difference. No major back story here, its just that the word "Sacrifice" has stuck with me today and I can't get it off my brain.
