GM's Vice Chairman Bob Lutz maintains a corporate blog at Fastlane.
It's a great example of how a corporate exec is communicating with the
masses outside of GM and is collecting ideas and communicating
direction through a blog. It is important for corporate executives to
post frequently and some may even need help with their ideas for
topics, but above all it needs to be in their own words and honest.
One interesting thing to note about the GM blog is that they don't
answer every customer post and Bob Lutz explains that with so many
responses, it is simply impossible. For businesses considering this
type of open blog, it would be a good idea to have your customer
service or marketing department ready to step in and respond and
communicate with cutomers if the comments begin to overwhelm the
executive blogger.
