Whose Car is This Anyway?

Here's an odd but true tale. My wife and I came home to our home in Queens, NY after picking up our daughter from Binghamton as her freshman year is over. We live in an attached townhouse. I told our next door neighbor we were picking up our daughter but we have a neighbor across the street take in our mail. Our next door neighbors are not reliable as we have learned from experience when it comes to taking in our mail.
Anyway-We came home on a saturday afternoon. We left on a thursday. My daughter went out late saturday night. She came home very late-about 2AM. But I called her before saying a car was parked on our driveway after she left. I thought a friend of hers parked it there -but no friend did. It was a brand new Mercedes R350-. My wife called police after my daughter came home-blasting her car horn but it apparently wasn't left by someone visiting a neighbor. Anyway-police ticketed car-it was purchased only one day earlier. We figured it was stolen and someone on a joy ride parked it by us ...or else someone really really drunk parked it forgetting where they parked it. About noon on the following day-we had it towed. Very noisy to get it off our driveway-tow truck hit his horn like a foghorn and neighbors all over block watched as it was towed away. About two hours later-our next door neighbor rang our bell and asked if we saw a mercedes on our driveway. Yes-It was his new car he had just purchased. He thought we'd be home sunday. He was too oblivious to notice the car we drove to Binghamton was parked in front of our house or that lights were on inside the house and on the porch. I felt terrible about this but he realized he was totally at fault and had to pay the ticket and towing charge. No one in his family-wife-kids-mother-in-law were awake to see the commotion being towed . Even a note in his car-as it wasn't even in computer yet when police checked would have been normal...but we had no way of knowing. He had two cars in his driveway. Who knew he just bought a 3rd car? Anyway- I hope he's more observant in the future.
