Unwed Mothers and Equal Rights for Gays ... .

While 40%, or 1.71 million children were born to unwed morthers in 2007, marriage equality is gaining momentum across America.
On Friday, the Iowa Supreme Court -- by a unanimous ruling -- made marriage equality the law of the land. Then the Vermont legislature overturned their Governor's veto of a marriage equality bill by a two-thirds margin on Tuesday.
And
now the religious right is responding with a national TV ad filled with
fear about a same-sex marriage "storm" gathering across the country.

This
morning, the "National Organization for Marriage" launched a disturbing
ad using actors to push lies claiming that marriage equalty threatens
personal freedoms. The ad is going up on the airwaves across America --
eight times a day in California -- as NOM seeks to build what they are
calling a "rainbow coalition" against equality.

I
don't get WHAT IS THE BIG DEAL? Certainly, the problems facing our
country are much larger and more important that this. And love is love,
isn't it?  When a couple has already been together far longer than most
heterosexual couples stay together, who are we to deny them the bond
that most of us can't  seem to withstand?  The divorce rate in 2005 was
38%....the current divorce rate is estimated as high as 60% in some
statistics I found.

I
really just don't understand what people are afraid of happening if
gays are allowed to marry and have the same benefits and rights as all
other married people.  Maybe I'm missing something here.  People like
to throw religion into this mix, but from my viewpoint, if God had not
of wanted gay people to marry, why would he have made people gay to
begin with? And don't get into the nature or nurture argument. That is
so old now, and all the scientific data shows that this is simply the
way people are born. So I don't want to hear that argument.

I
just want to know what people fear from allowing gays in love to marry
just as heterosexuals marry....and they (heterosexuals)  aren't doing a
very good job about the commitment they make on their wedding day.

Convince
me that my thinking is wrong. It was within my lifetime that people
were afraid to give "black" people the same civil rights that us white
have.  It was rightly given to them and by God, the world DIDN'T end.

So what is the fear here? I just don't understand.
