I know I have been away from the blog for far too long and I really have no excuse. Especially when taking into account the fact I am currently unemployed and have PLENTY of time these days to be blogging. However, I may have lots of time, but little of anything to report.
I have been looking for work (Ah! Showbiz!). I was in Washington, DC last month talking to some people up there for a position they had open. I spent a couple of days getting a feel for the city and if I wanted to move there. I also had the chance to meet up with the infamous Kdwag! And she’s as delightful in person as she seems! My only regret is that I was so tired and jetlagged that I did not have the energy to hit up a few more bars and cut loose LA style on DC’s ass! I also didn’t get to meet SB…sigh…maybe next time…
Anyway, the job interview went well; unfortunately I did not get the job. In retrospect I’m not disappointed. In fact, when I got the call I was rather relieved. There were a few things during the interview that bothered me more than I realized until after the fact. One of the things I noticed was a slight undertone of “East Coast†snobbery, which I’m sure would have come out full force if I had worked there. The company I used to work for has an office in DC and their disdain for the west coast was always stomach churning. It’s pathetic and completely unwarranted.
The other thing that bothered me, was when I met some of the people I would have been working with, I was FAAAAAR more laid back than they were. It was rather creepy. And I’m not a very laid back person – in fact, I often have people telling ME to chill. So when I meet people stiffer than I can be, that weirds me out to say the least.
I also had a much more extensive list of experience than most of the people I met with. I got the distinct impression that their entire careers began at that company and they will remain there till they die. They were clearly people who never got production dirt under their fingernails and my hands are covered in it. It was like a farmer meeting a commodities trader who’d never been to the country.
So I’m staying in LA and happy for it. I just need a job!!
I’d like to re-order that EEEP please!
