Yesterday was your normal every day at work, and then, two younger kids come in and ask for work applications. So I give them their applications and go about the work that I was doing. Both kids stick around and only one fills out the application there.
They ring the bell to let me know that they are finished and hand over one application (the other one probably wanted to do his at home). Then they leave.
I really didn't look at the front of the application right away. I just looked at his work experience and so on. He only had one and it said that the job was he is "self-employed". No dates, no name of the "self-employed" company, and his self employment is "cutting glass"
When I went back to the front of the page where it asks if they have any prior convictions and if so, for what? I look and it says that six months ago, this kid was convicted of ROBBERY!
Now put those two together. "Cutting Glass" and "Robbery". Get it? You can cut glass in a robbery...
Obviously, this application is going to be thrown away by the store manager, but I kept it around for the other mangers to see.
...and yes, this is a true story! It was interesting, because when I walked away from them to finish my work, the first thought in my head at the time, was the senerio of a gun and getting robbed.
Normally, I am not so judgemental on applicants that come in for a job, but shit! My intuition was right!
