A few nights after I really started seriously considering moving to Kentucky, I was home alone in Las Vegas. Mara was out of the country, and it was late…after 11 pm…dark. We had frequently seen helicopters a couple of miles away, circling, looking for criminals. There are a few helicopters used this way by the Las Vegas police.
This night, the helicopters came to our house. Instantly the backyard was in complete light, as if it were day. It was definitely a close encounters moment. The noise of the blades coupled with the intense light was frightening, particularly since the helicopter kept doubling back to OUR backyard.
You know what that means. They thought the criminal was in OUR BACKYARD. Criminal. It seemed to go on forever, and then they were gone.
I switched on the laptop and intensified my job search.
Now that we're in Kentucky, Mara is working nights. I hate it! I can't wait until we can have a regular schedule and get back to "normal" life.
