From a potential runaway bride to another illigitimate child, the civil ceremony uniting 52-year-old-Prince Albert of Monaco with his longtime companion, 32-year-old South African swimmer, Charlene Whitstock, was overshadowed today by scandal.
French newspapers were shouting headlines that the Prince has fathered another child out of wedlock (he has already acknowledged being the father of two), and that Whitstock had tried to flee back to South Africa but had her passport confiscated in Nice.
The couple has vehemently denied that their relationship is on rocky ground, appearing together in a show of support at a star-studded concert for wedding guests last night by The Eagles.
The statuesque former Olympic swimmer wed her paramour at a civil ceremony at
the palace on Friday afternoon, and then was set to head outside for a picnic
and an electropop concert by Jean Michel Jarre. On Saturday, the couple will
hold a religious wedding in the Catholic Church and round out the evening with
an official dinner and fireworks.
Meanwhile, royal confidante Stephane Bern says Albert simply doesn't have time
to organize a DNA test before the $88 million wedding.
