Fires
Now aren't you glad I didn't post this about 2 months ago? Enough is enough.
Yeah, it's me. Another disaster. We're having fires here in Southern California again.
The fires that are raging now are extreme. The winds are strong and the power is in danger. They are talking about rolling blackouts. Hundreds of homes have already been lost. The wind is so strong, embers are blowing and spreading the fire very fast.
On television, all that can be seen are smoke and flames. The winds are almost knocking over the newsmen and equipment in the area. Yesterday we saw and heard palm trees literally exploding. Huge affluent homes were exploding, completely engulfed at once with no chance of being saved. I heard the names Steven Spielberg and Rob Lowe at that time, the fire was in that neighborhood. It looked like special effects in a movie.
The fire department is now having a press conference and saying "it's the worse case scenario. The cause is under investigation. There has been great devastation. Temperatures 90 degrees, winds 50 miles an hour. 7-800 homes lost, thousands threatened. One large mobile home park has been burned to the ground. Absolute firestorm, hoses literally melted into the ground, need to be prepared for total devastation when returning home, hard to tell addresses because street signs were melted down, trees like eucalyptus, rich in oil were going up and fueling the fires. Many people had only minutes, 4-5 minutes to escape, the fires traveled so quickly. Many fled with just a few things."
The power system is greatly compromised, 2 of 5 transmission lines are out of commission. They want us to use as little power as possible. The mayor spoke of this. It is possible that the entire city may be blacked out unless this is done.
They're showing some homes that are smoldering - in areas that are fairly intact. There is smoke everywhere. This is expected to last several days. The wind is shifting, which is bad news for lots more people. Forecast: winds will decrease, but will still be there, weather will continue to be in the 80s, offshore flow is coming in (some good news). More evacuations in a new area. More homes threatened. All roads to the San Fernando Valley are shut down. People needing to travel north must use alternate routes. About 6500 acres have been burned so far. Entire neighborhoods are just piles of rubble. It looks like an 8 point earthquake.
Here's a link that has three videos on the fire where it says launch.
