I read an excellent book about mental illness when I was suffering from depression. there are basically two approaches -- the human body is a chemical factory, therefore all we have to do is balance the chemicals theory... and the less popular approach that reckons we are thinking and feeling animals who need companionship, love, attention, stability and understanding... despite this book, the 'humans are chemicals' approach is the one favoured by most psychiatrists in the western world. such cruelty.

I've no idea about your previous dealings with Vegas daughter, however, perhaps she is a little like me. The only relative I could bear to visit was my grandmother, because she always seems genuinely pleased to see me, and never, ever made me feel guilty by saying such things as: "Why don't you visit more often? Oh it is so long since you've called/written/visited! come again soon, Don't leave it so long next time... other relatives always said those things so I never went back... grandmother never did, so I visited.

Poor Martin... you must be all of a twitter - shall I express post you some valium to tide you over the weekend? But I agree... there's something about seeing films in a cinema. Noise of toffee wrappers, someone throwing jaffa balls from the circle or spitting on those directly beneath. kids yelling, coughing, influenza bugs, icecream dribbled down your back, body odour from your neighbour, queuing to get out when some big arse stands yakking to his mate in the aisle... Yeah... lets go to the movies.

As usual... a contrary note. Why do we want these poor beasts to breed? They are locked in cages like prisoners, guilty of nothing, never to experience freedom and danger, fresh air and life. If the mating is successful all we've done is make another innocent panda to suffer a life sentence. Why? to amuse humans who have destroyed 90% of their natural habitat so they can never know a life of freedom. Better dead or extinct than a prisoner in a peep show I reckon.

I too like the trees... I wrote something silly on your 'home' age... they look as if the strong tree is supporting the weaker... I like that.
Are/were you a voluntary patient? Can you leave? I know from experience in a nursing home for terminally old/ill patients, some nurses - especially female I'm sorry to say, were extremely cruel, thoughtless and even sadistic to the old men especially. You do write very well!

I know I am always pushing the same barrow... but the sole source of all this hatred and violence is religion. There is no other source of it. All these people have had their minds polluted by religious hatred...
Sorry to rant on... but I can't get it out of my head. If all the decent christians would only stand up and denounce these bigots, something would change. But they wont. they don't dare criticise other religious people. It sucks.

Brilliant! All we need to know about the male and female psyches... loved these: Be romantic and turn out the lights = I have flabby thighs.
What’s wrong? = What self-inflicted psychological trauma is it this time?

I have a friend who taught University calculus for years... I forget how many times I asked him to give me one practical use of the wretched discipline... but he seems as confused as his students. Apart from calculating the trajectory of space ships, what's the use? Ah, the mind-bending agony.
