A Little Bit of Faith

Date: Wednesday, July 30, 2014
Today's Chapters: Isaiah 36-38
Message Title: A Little Bit Of Faith

There are times in our lives that the things we go through seem unbearable, we keep pressing on, day by day, praying, seeking answers from God, only to no avail. How do we get through life's unbearable moments? Faith. We must have faith that we are going to get through this, we must have faith in God getting us through this. I will admit that sometimes, my faith in God is rather small, there are days that I barely speak to Him because my heart is just so overwhelmed with my circumstances. Did you know that God hears us when we cannot even speak to Him? It's true. God loves us, and it is through these circumstances that He is with us the most, and not only that, shows His faithfulness to us. “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” - 1 Corinthians 10:13.

After God spoke of the judgments coming to all the nations, and what was about to happen to Jerusalem we are taken to the events that took place when Hezekiah was king in the Southern Kingdom and the Northern Kingdom had already been overtaken by Assyria. Now, they are in Judah, King Sennacherib tried every tactic to get the people to go against Hezekiah's decision to trust God to deliver them.

“Then Rabshakeh stood, and cried with a loud voice in the Jews' language, and said, Hear ye the words of the great king, the king of Assyria. Thus saith the king, Let not Hezekiah deceive you: for he shall not be able to deliver you. Neither let Hezekiah make you trust in the LORD, saying, The LORD will surely deliver us: this city shall not be delivered into the hand of the king of Assyria. Hearken not to Hezekiah: for thus saith the king of Assyria, Make an agreement with me by a present, and come out to me: and eat ye every one of his vine, and every one of his fig tree, and drink ye every one the waters of his own cistern; Until I come and take you away to a land like your own land, a land of corn and wine, a land of bread and vineyards. Beware lest Hezekiah persuade you, saying, The LORD will deliver us. Hath any of the gods of the nations delivered his land out of the hand of the king of Assyria?” - Isaiah 36:13-18.

Wicked men rarely act on their own, they usually work for someone who is too cowardly to do their dirty work for them. Sennacherib made a major mistake, he compared the living God to all the false gods the people made, including Israel. The world does everything it can to tempt us to go against the only living God, making the exact same assumption that Sennacherib did. What they fail to understand is that we have the all powerful God on our side, and He alone will deliver us out of the hands of the biggest coward of all, the devil, who cannot do his dirty work himself, but pulls people in who cannot bare their circumstances in the first place. “Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.” - Ephesians 6:11,12.

Hezekiah did the only thing he could do to defeat Sennacherib, he prayed to God. “And Hezekiah prayed unto the LORD, saying, O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the God, even thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth. Incline thine ear, O LORD, and hear; open thine eyes, O LORD, and see: and hear all the words of Sennacherib, which hath sent to reproach the living God. Of a truth, LORD, the kings of Assyria have laid waste all the nations, and their countries, And have cast their gods into the fire: for they were no gods, but the work of men's hands, wood and stone: therefore they have destroyed them. Now therefore, O LORD our God, save us from his hand, that all the kingdoms of the earth may know that thou art the LORD, even thou only.” - Isaiah 37:15-20.

Prayer really is the only way to get God's attention, and I am not talking about simple, day to day prayers, I am talking about the heart breaking, knee trembling, tears falling like rain, type of prayers. While God does love to hear us, it is this type of praying that really does the most for us, you realize that God truly is with you, and you can literally feel His hand on your shoulders. Isaiah went to Hezekiah with good news. “For out of Jerusalem shall go forth a remnant, and they that escape out of mount Zion: the zeal of the LORD of hosts shall do this. Therefore thus saith the LORD concerning the king of Assyria, He shall not come into this city, nor shoot an arrow there, nor come before it with shields, nor cast a bank against it. By the way that he came, by the same shall he return, and shall not come into this city, saith the LORD. For I will defend this city to save it for mine own sake, and for my servant David's sake.” - Isaiah 37:32-35.

Something amazing happens when we put our trust in the Lord Jesus Christ, and remain faithful to Him, God defends us for Christ's sake. You want to know why some of the most ungodliest nations have not been destroyed yet? It is because there are thousands of people knocking doors and getting the Gospel out. It is the few faithful, who will not bow down to the devil, who, in spite of their circumstances, get up and fight, fight, fight, for their right to live for Christ. We may not always be the strongest in our faith, but a little bit of faith goes a long way. That little bit of faith is what keeps us holding on to our integrity, and gives us hope of relief from the darkest of circumstances. “Humble yourselves therefore under the mighty hand of God, that he may exalt you in due time: Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you. Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.” - 1 Peter 5:6-9.

Today's Prayer: God, I know that my faith in You goes up and down like a roller coaster, one minute I see You doing some amazing things in my life, the next I feel as though I am being punished for something and there is no way out. You know my heart, You know my thoughts, and You know my feelings, when I cannot bare to speak to You, You always give me rest, and before I know it I am in tears. Today, I am not asking for anything, but to simply say thank you. Thank You for loving me, and knowing exactly what I really feel, thank You for Your mighty touch that gives me peace like no other, and always being there for me. Thank You for giving me hope, and keeping me faithful to You in the midst of my circumstances. In Your name, Jesus, Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
