It took them long enough to figure out that I hadn't done anything for the company in over 6 weeks.
I think Lazar was a bit shocked when he called to fire me yesterday.
Mike and I were sure that I was going to be fired when Lazar came into town next week. In fact, I was considering not showing up on Monday morning since I really never wanted to see the guy again.
So around 2:30, I was busy working (on a straight draw) on pokerroom. I had King/Jack of clubs in the pocket and the flop came Queen, 10, 4. My phone rings, and the ID says WASH DC CALL. I bet 5 dollars and pick up the phone.
Lazar is on the other end and he sounds anxious. One person calls my 5 dollar bet. He asks me whats going on, and I casually say "nothing". He stumbles in to the purpose of his call and he tells me that supercorp is terminating my employment. I respond: "okay, cool." (My way of telling him "Thanks for the severance pay, I was quitting Monday anyway.")
A 9 of spades falls on the turn, giving me the nuts. Jizar is still talking to me, but I'm really paying more attention to the poker hand than I am to him. I check. The mean looking lady also checks. He says something about how I shouldn't be surprised that he's firing me. (Does "okay, cool." sound surprised to you? Maybe it means "Holy Shit!" in Pakistani.)
He continues justifying his decision to me and I give him a dose of "uh-huh" and "okay". I'm not paying attention at all anymore. The river card is something useless, 6 of hearts I think. I bet 5 more dollars, the lady calls. The lady had Queens and Tens. I scoop $27. Sorry about your luck, lady. But you should have seen it coming, I'm a professional poker player now.
