Today's Chapters: Proverbs 30,31
Message Title: Seeing The Light
I will admit that I have been having a rough year, it seems that no matter which way I turn I am in the dark, but everyone around me is seeing the light just fine. This past week however, I finally saw some light at the end of a tunnel, it was than that I realized how selfish I have been. I took a vow to stop feeling sorry for myself and start taking care of myself for God's glory. It's not what God gives me that I have been taking for granted, it's making use of what He has given me. We must never make light of anything that God gives us, even the struggles, they are all given for one reason and one reason only, to get us to see that He is all we need. “Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die: Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me: Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.†- Proverbs 30:7-9.
I got my first Bible when I was thirteen, but I did not grow up reading the Bible. I read stories of the Bible, went to summer Bible school, and even went to a church that made no sense to me, which did not use a Bible. Now that I do read my Bible daily, I have learned that people follow the Word of God in one of three ways. They read it and accept it as it is written, they read it and alter it to fit their needs, or they do not read it at all and learn of it by what others tell them. We all fit into one of these categories, and if we want to truly want to see the light, we need to read and accept all of it. “Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man. I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy. Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell? Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.†- Proverbs 30:2-6.
When we do not live by every word of God, we are short changing ourselves, God is our guide, teacher, and provider, we will never have a fulfilled life if we do not know what God does to fulfill it. “No man, when he hath lighted a candle, covereth it with a vessel, or putteth it under a bed; but setteth it on a candlestick, that they which enter in may see the light. For nothing is secret, that shall not be made manifest; neither any thing hid, that shall not be known and come abroad. Take heed therefore how ye hear: for whosoever hath, to him shall be given; and whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken even that which he seemeth to have.†- Luke 8:16-18.
The Proverbs are amazing and interesting, only in one sentence can a person be lifted up and convicted all at the same time. They can be confusing to read, I do not know how many times I have read them and still wonder about some things. Once you catch it you know it must be something that God wants you to come to understand and do. People seem to reject or change God's Word in an attempt to keep God in their world somehow, but the truth is, as long as people keep changing God to suit them all they are doing is creating a bigger mess. You wonder why so called Christian kids have no respect for parents these days? It's because their parents are not following nor teaching their kids to follow God's Word. “There is a generation that curseth their father, and doth not bless their mother. There is a generation that are pure in their own eyes, and yet is not washed from their filthiness. There is a generation, O how lofty are their eyes! and their eyelids are lifted up. There is a generation, whose teeth are as swords, and their jaw teeth as knives, to devour the poor from off the earth, and the needy from among men. The horseleach hath two daughters, crying, Give, give. There are three things that are never satisfied, yea, four things say not, It is enough:†- Proverbs 30:11-15.
A horseleech is a large leech that infests the mouth and nasal passages of horses, the leeches attach themselves to skin and suck the blood out of whatever it is that it attaches itself to, so, they literally suck the life out of them. The horseleech to a person is the world, it's daughters are lust and envy, they are always crying give me more, and they attach themselves to every wicked and immoral thing imagined, yet are never satisfied. The world sucks the life out of people, it does not care about them, it has no desire to see them successful, but always wanting more. “Ye adulterers and adulteresses, know ye not that the friendship of the world is enmity with God? whosoever therefore will be a friend of the world is the enemy of God. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.†- James 4:4,17.
Often throughout the Bible you read about men being blessed by living by the Word of God, but once in a while something pops up to remind women that they to need to live by every word of God, perhaps even more than men. “What, my son? and what, the son of my womb? and what, the son of my vows? Give not thy strength unto women, nor thy ways to that which destroyeth kings. Who can find a virtuous woman? for her price is far above rubies. The heart of her husband doth safely trust in her, so that he shall have no need of spoil. She will do him good and not evil all the days of her life. Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all. Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised. Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.†- Proverbs 31:2,3,10-12,29-31.
A woman has a great deal of influence on a man, one who is wicked and controls a man destroys the man and their children as well, but a virtuous woman, one who lives by every word of God is blessed. She is in command of her own spirit, a help meet to her husband, a good teacher to her children, and stand by the principles of God’s Word. A virtuous woman is honored by God and she is prosperous in all that she does. “A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.†- Proverbs 12:4.
We all have times in our lives where it seems as there is no light in the darkness, sometimes they last longer than others, but we are the ones who can control that. We do not have to let circumstances control us, we can control our circumstances, in order to do that we must realize we cannot do it without God. The devil loves to get us to think that we do not have to live by Every Word or that we can get by with someone telling us what we are supposed to do, but he is lying and deceiving us. While living by every word of God is not what saves us, it is what helps us out of struggles and keeps us guarded against the devil and all his attacks. “As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter. Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us. For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come, Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.†- Romans 8:36-39.
Today's Prayer: God, I believe that everything in Your Word is true and that I will receive all the promises You made as I learn and grow in it. Lord, give me Your power, wisdom, and guidance, make me a hearer and a doer of Your Word. Let me not be tempted by others who are not living by every word and use me to be an example to others. Give me Your mercy, grace, and strength to keep going and give me patience to wait for Your timing in seeing everything come to pass. Let me not lose sight of the light that I see ahead, even if the things I am waiting for are not in Your will for me. In Jesus' name. Amen.
God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
