As thin as a spent hair found upon my sweater
As unpredictable as the wish that things would be better
As fragile as the shell a tired chick just shed
As unrecallable as the words I should not have said
Is your lifeline such as mine or is it much stronger
Do you wish it away or do you wish if longer
Do you see it kind and sweet, entirely warm
Can you trace its fragile lines, its light and airy form
Is your lifeline there each day, protecting you from harm
Will it stand on guard when you feel prickles of alarm
Will it soothe you, comfort you with life’s lilting song
Will it tell you that you have a niche, you are where you belong
Or does it bring you blind distress that you’ve never lost
Does it say the price is high. you can’t afford the cost
Are you lost in waters deep, and cannot find the surface
Suffocating waters reveal that you now have no purpose
