Today's Chapters: Psalms 144-150
Message Title: Becoming A Copy of Jesus
My favorite tool when writing my devotion is copy and paste, if not for copy and paste I would have to type every bit of the Scripture. When I have a block of Scripture that I want to use, I just highlight it, click copy, and paste in right onto the page, it's not that I mind typing it all, but I can get done faster and make less mistakes by copying and pasting it. When you think about it, our life is, but a copy and paste, our character may be unique, but we really are a collection of people that we have copied and pasted on us. Imagine how blessed we would be if we copied and pasted Jesus on us? Let me tell you, things would done a lot faster and it will be more accurate. “Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you.†- John 13:13-15.
We cannot receive Christ and instantly become a copy of Him, we must work at it, and it will take a lifetime, but little by little, as we copy and paste a little bit of Him onto us, we become more like Him. One of the first things we need to do to become like Him is to make Him a part of our daily lives. We cannot be like Him if we do not get around Him, and once we do get around Him, He will remove the things and even people from being more like Him. That hard part is letting go of the things and people who keep us from being more like Him, but we can do by His strength in us. “LORD, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him! or the son of man, that thou makest account of him! Man is like to vanity: his days are as a shadow that passeth away. Bow thy heavens, O LORD, and come down: touch the mountains, and they shall smoke. Cast forth lightning, and scatter them: shoot out thine arrows, and destroy them. Send thine hand from above; rid me, and deliver me out of great waters, from the hand of strange children; Whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood. Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD.†- Psalm 144:3-8,15.
With all the crazy things we have and will do in our lifetime, it truly is amazing that God takes knowledge of us, all of us, and we will be accountable for our actions, even after we are saved. Just because we are saved that does not mean God will not place judgment upon us for not removing the things and people that we have copied to be where we were to begin with. “If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men's matters. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf. For the time is come that judgment must begin at the house of God: and if it first begin at us, what shall the end be of them that obey not the gospel of God? And if the righteous scarcely be saved, where shall the ungodly and the sinner appear?†- 1 Peter 4:14-18.
It is the mercy and grace of God that keeps His children from being cast into hell, eve in we do continue to mess up. Remember, it is not any of our righteousness that saves us, but by Christ's righteousness, that alone should be all the incentive we need to remove the things from our lives that keep us from being more like Jesus. “The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy. The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works. All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee. The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down. The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season. Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing. The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works. The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth. The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.†- Psalm 145:8-10,14-18,20.
I imagine about 90% of the time we get caught up in things because we copy and paste other people who are not saved or desire things that they have. Sometimes I look at people and think, “I am doing everything right, why can't I have that?†The truth is, God has something much better for us than what they have, besides eternal life through Jesus, we have a great God on our side that will give us more than we desire if we just have faith in and wait for Him. As we copy and paste a little bit of the patience Jesus has, we will receive all our desires and even more. “And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God. For verily I say unto you, That whosoever shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; and shall not doubt in his heart, but shall believe that those things which he saith shall come to pass; he shall have whatsoever he saith. Therefore I say unto you, What things soever ye desire, when ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall have them.†- Mark 11:22-24.
I have to be honest with you, while I do have faith that God can and will do anything I ask Him, I struggle with believing that He will do it for me. I convince myself that I can be content with what I have rather than trust that God will bless me with what I really want. Let me tell you, that attitude is not one that gets God's attention, and it certainly not give us the things we desire. “Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the LORD his God: Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever: Which executeth judgment for the oppressed: which giveth food to the hungry. The LORD looseth the prisoners: The LORD openeth the eyes of the blind: the LORD raiseth them that are bowed down: the LORD loveth the righteous: The LORD preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.†- Psalm 146:5-9.
The God of Jacob is the God of every, saved, born again believer of Jesus Christ. Sadly, many, many people, Jews and Gentiles alike, will die and end up in hell because they never believed in Jesus. While we must be content with what we have at present, we must never stop believing that God does not have more to give us. He wants to give us everything we desire, but we must have faith in Him. “He healeth the broken in heart, and bindeth up their wounds. He telleth the number of the stars; he calleth them all by their names. Great is our Lord, and of great power: his understanding is infinite. The LORD lifteth up the meek: he casteth the wicked down to the ground. Sing unto the LORD with thanksgiving; sing praise upon the harp unto our God: The LORD taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.†- Psalm 147:3-7,11.
God truly is the only one who can heal a broken heart, and bind up the wounds of every pain and sorrow we have inside us that keeps us from having that meek and humble spirit of Jesus Christ, which is the key to keeping that hope in God in us. “For he that will love life, and see good days, let him refrain his tongue from evil, and his lips that they speak no guile: Let him eschew evil, and do good; let him seek peace, and ensue it. For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil. And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good? But and if ye suffer for righteousness' sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled; But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:†- 1 Peter 3:10-15.
Today's Prayer: Jesus, It is truly amazing how much my life has changed since I chose to hand over all my troubles to You. You literally picked me up and brought me out of the prison I was in, I know I mess up, but I know how far I have come and I thank You for that. Lord, give me Your power to love, trust, and follow You with my whole heart, mind, and soul, let me not become weary, but stronger in my faith. Give me the strength to walk with You every day and give me the will to copy and paste a little bit of You in me each day. In your name Jesus. Amen
God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
