Bible Study: Giving

Hello My Friend/Guest,

Today is Sunday February 15, 2009 and we are continuing our studies on the book of Numbers.

Today's Bible Reading: Numbers Chapter 7
You can read the chapter by clicking on the link above, if the link does not work you can copy and paste this link into your browser: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Numbers%207&version=9

Today's Message: Giving
God gives each Christian varying spiritual opportunities and responsibilities, but Everyone is equally important in the eyes of God.

As we read through this chapter it may seem uninteresting and monotonous as weread of the offerings given each day by the twelve tribes. "And it came to pass on the day that Moses had fully set up the tabernacle, and had anointed it, and sanctified it, and all the instruments thereof, both the altar and all the vessels thereof, and had anointed them, and sanctified them; That the princes of Israel, heads of the house of their fathers, who were the princes of the tribes, and were over them that were numbered, offered:And they brought their offering before the LORD, six covered wagons, and twelve oxen; a wagon for two of the princes, and for each one an ox: and they brought them before the tabernacle. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,Take it of them, that they may be to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; and thou shalt give them unto the Levites, to every man according to his service." (Numbers 7:1-5). It is significant that all the details were given each day for each offering even though the offerings were exactly the same. It reveals the pleasure of God in each sacrifice from His people. God is always observant of the gifts presented to Him to bring Him honor and glory and maintain His ministers.

Mount Sinai is often associated with the severity of the Law, but the Tabernacle that was built there illustrates the loving concern of God to communicate and fellowship with His people and to direct them through life. All the princes revealed their gratitude through their generous freewill gifts for all responded equally to the need. God records every act of service, every gift given to encourage us to give more in order to receive His best blessings.

Giving always benefits the giver,a gift can lift burdens, provide happiness, answer prayers, and save a soul from eternal hell. "But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver. And God is able to make all grace abound toward you; that ye, always having all sufficiency in all things, may abound to every good work:(As it is written, He hath dispersed abroad; he hath given to the poor: his righteousness remaineth for ever. Now he that ministereth seed to the sower both minister bread for your food, and multiply your seed sown, and increase the fruits of your righteousness;)Being enriched in every thing to all bountifulness, which causeth through us thanksgiving to God." (II Corinthians 9:6-11). All gifts are not monetary, it could be giving your time, giving things that you no longer need, cooking for someone, or even praying for someone.

Giving to God always results in further blessings, as Christians develop faith by giving to the Lord's work, both our desire to give and our ability to give are increased. Our desire to give is increased as we experience the joy of giving; and we increasingly prove the integrity of the Word of God.

Today's Psalm: 37:4
"Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart."

Today's Prayer
Dear God,
We pray that You will empower us to live responsible lives so that we can be living examples of what it means to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age. Help us to resist temptations that weaken our resolve to live holy lives by memorizing and quoting Scripture that speaks to that sinful behavior, even while we’re being tempted. We desire to bring joy to Your heart as we live responsibly and cast off that which hinders our spiritual growth. We want to seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness so that we will be kingdom servants pursuing righteous living. In Jesus' name...........Amen.

Have a wonderful and blessed Lord's Day.
God Bless,
Christina
