Cohabitation

I
don’t have a very good memory as such, but I remember reading
somewhere that in our constitution (or a certain country’s
constitution) that if a man-a male who has attained the age of
majority-willingly cohabits with a woman-likewise a female who has
attained the age of majority, then the two are deemed to be husband
and wife by law. In effect, the woman can sue the man for divorce and
all the privileges that come with it in case the man does anything
that can be deemed hurtful to the lady.

As
much as I don’t have much to say about what the constitution says-I
am an engineering and not a law student in campus-I can freely say
that if what the particular constitution says is binding then a good
number of campus students would be culprits of cohabitation for more
than six months. I am saying this from what I see every day in
campus. I have personally lived next to a classmate of mine in the
campus premises who stayed with his girlfriend as a man would stay
with his legally married wife. To make it more interesting, the lady
in question had her own room that her folks had paid for but which
she didn’t use at all.

According
to what the dude told me when I asked him on one occasion whether he
was married or not, both of them were
essays writers and
most of the time that they were together was spent in
essay
writing
and
not in any other monkey business. Of course I wasn’t fooled-though
I pretended to be-because being their neighbor I can bear proof to
what goes on in their room at night. It is nothing close to writing
essays. He isn’t the only guy that I know, but I wouldn’t like to
talk about any more of them because I may be seen as a whistle
blower.
