Turmoil in Turkey

The recent wave of protests in Istanbul and other Turkish cities against the government of Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan, which has taken Turkey to new heights, comes as a surprise to everyone.

The protests erupted over government’s plans to redevelop Istanbul’s Gezi Park into a complex with new mosque and shopping center.

The ongoing demonstrations across the country have caused huge damage to private and public properties. Scores of shops, public transport, and government offices have been vandalized by angry mobs. It seems that some external forces are deliberately trying to create instability in Turkey. Apparently jealous of its economic boom amid global gloom, these forces are aiming to derail Ankara’s march toward being a world power.
The suspicion of an external hand is based on the fact that the turmoil in the country has come at a time when the Muslim world, particularly in the Middle East, is in unprecedented chaos.

Unfortunately, recent agitations have also in particular targeted Islamist Prime Minister Erdogan who has changed the entire face of Turkey in 11 years. Due to successful economic policies of the Erdogan government, the country’s exports have risen to $ 114 billion. The recent agreement with PKK rebels is another big achievement of the government. Because of its strong position in the region, Turkey is playing an important role in Syrian and Palestinian conflicts. the pathetic conditions of illegal expats who are trying to get out of the Kingdom.

It seems that the miseries of these workers do not seem to end. They are waiting long hours in scorching heat in front of their respective embassies and consulates to get outpasses, then queuing up at the deportation center to get exit papers, and finally at the airport they are told they cannot fly out from that particular airport. Since no-show leads to cancellation of nonrefundable air tickets, which are too expensive these days, these expatriates are finding it difficult to cope with the compounding challenges. I request the authorities in Saudi Arabia which is also known as “Kingdom of Humanity” to look into the plight of these illegals and do the needful to mitigate their sufferings as soon as possible.
