Jesus Said: I Am the Bread of Life

I Am The Bread of Life 02.20.08

"Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work? Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat. Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven. For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world. Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread. And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst." (John 6:28-35).

Our bodies are more than just a physical being, we are created with a mind, a body, and a spirit. Each one of these elements complete and balance us and when one of these are out of balance we feel lost and hopeless. Just as we need food to nourish our bodies, we also need mental food for our minds and spiritual food for our spirits.

Our spirit however, is the inner most part of our being and if our spirit is malnourished our entire body becomes weak and vulnerable to making less accurate decisions, falling into temptations, and losing the confidence we have in God as well as ourselves. Jesus is the bread of life that nourishes us and keeps us from hungering and thirsting for something to make us feel alive. Without Him we will always be hungry and looking for something to feed on.

I can account for the times when my spirit has been weak, I could care less what I was doing, always making wrong decisions and paying for them. When I am depressed I am always looking for something to make me feel happy and often it is the wrong thing and it never keeps me satisfied. When I am worried I always forget about everyone and everything and live as if I am in a daze. When I am angry I get jealous and envious over other and stop at nothing to get those things myself.

However, Jesus never gives up on me, when He sees me falling away from Him and searching for nourishment in other ways He pulls and pulls until I realize that He is what I needed. I quickly repented and fed on HIs Word, I not only grew stronger, I overcame my struggles and was blessed even more. I finally understand what it means to be hungry for God, when He is not with me I become lost, agitated, and feel as if I am broken hearted. Nothing in life goes right and I am always on edge. Thankfully God never gives up on me when I make mistakes and start getting that way again.

Just as He does not give up on me He will not give up on You. If you are feeling lost, alone, searching for something to fill that void, your spirit is hungry and needs to be nourished. Go to Jesus, talk to Him, sing to Him, read His Word, as you begin to focus on Him you become at peace and know that you are not alone and that Jesus is right there with you and will take care of all your needs.

Jesus is the bread of life that becomes the spiritual food we need to nourish our spirits, which then gives us the mental nourishment we need for our minds, which then enables us to make the right decisions to nourish our bodies.

God gave us all free will to be able to choose which things we want in our lives. Worldly things are only temporary and no matter what one has one is always searching for something much bigger and better as they are never satisfied for too long with what they have. When a person takes the time to read what Jesus has to say then the holes will be filled.

People of other religions are often much happier than Christians and have contentment without Jesus. Many of them are wealthier and healthier than those who walk around thinking about Jesus 24/7/365 (366 in leap years). Are they making right decisions and being blessed? Does God "make the sun shine and rain fall on the just and unjust"? If so, why do Christians keep bringing up Jesus as a placebo that makes them feel good if people can feel just as well or better without him? Where does the Bible teach that Jesus fills holes in our lives and keeps us from hungering after other things? Or is that Christian pop psychology?
