Today's Message: God's Instruction
Although we may be active in church and have a great instructor explaining God's Word it is important that we read it for ourselves so we know exactly what God's instructions are.
David now ruled over the United Kingdom. He had a grave desire to honor God by bringing the Ark of the Covenant (the dwelling place for God on earth) to Jerusalem. By doing so Jerusalem would become the religious and political capital of Israel. For about 75 years, during most of Samuel's leadership and during Saul's 40-year reign, the Ark had remained with Abinadab at Kirjath-jearim. "Again, David gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand. And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the LORD of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubims. And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drave the new cart." (II Samuel 6:1-3).
David was sincerely seeking to honor God, but David overlooked two very important instructions involving the transport of the Ark. The Ark had to be carried by poles on the shoulders of the priests, and the penalty for touching the Ark was death (see Numbers 3:30-31). Sadly, this mistake caused Uzzah to lose his life, attempting to keep the Ark from toppling off the cart he touched it and died instantly. "And when they came to Nachon's threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it. And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God." (6:6-7). Had David learned of God's instructions he would have known that the Ark could not have been touched. This serves as a warning to Christian's who fail to read God's Word. Of course we may not understand every word in the Bible, but if all we do is hear what God is saying from others we never know His True Word.
David was humiliated, disheartened, displeased, and afraid of God that day. He then prayed to God and asked Him what they needed to do to get the Ark to Jerusalem. "And David was afraid of the LORD that day, and said, How shall the ark of the LORD come to me? So David would not remove the ark of the LORD unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite. And the ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the LORD blessed Obededom, and all his household. And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness." (6:9-12).
All true greatness is dependent upon being humble. " But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble.Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you." (James 4:6-7). The blessing of God will rest upon all who humble themselves and serve Him in whatever capacity He chooses for them to serve regardless of how lowly the position may seem.
Today's Psalm: 10:17-18
"LORD, thou hast heard the desire of the humble: thou wilt prepare their heart, thou wilt cause thine ear to hear: To judge the fatherless and the oppressed, that the man of the earth may no more oppress."
Today's Prayer:
Dear God,
Your Word is a lamp unto our feet and a light unto our path. Without it we would walk in darkness and be led astray. We want to give attention to Your Word and follow its instruction so that we will not drift from the truth. Lord, help us daily to learn Your Words so we are able to understand and apply them to our hearts. In Jesus' Name........Amen.
Have a wonderful and blessed night/day.
God Bless You,
Christina
