Bible Study: a Tiny Sin

A Tiny Sin 10.13.08

Hello My Friend/Guest,

Today we will begin our studies on the book of Mark, please read Chapters 1-3 in your Bible or Click Here to read them online. If the link does not work you can copy & paste this link to your browser: biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark%201-3&version=9

Today we will read about the ministry of John the Baptist; the baptism and temptation of Jesus; His Galilean ministry; Jesus choosing His twelve apostles; and the unpardonable sin. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that no matter how small a sin may seem if we are not careful it will spread like a disease and cause devasting consequences.

The book of Mark is the 2nd book of the New Testament and contains 16 chapters. The author of the book is Mark and it was written to all believers, but first tot he Roman whom represent Jesus as a servant. The purpose of the book is to present the ministry of Jesus, stressing His role as a servant and the Son of man.

Unlike the book of Matthew where Jesus was presented as a King, the book of Mark emphasizes Jesus as the Servant of God. No genealogy is given since Jesus is portrayed as a servant and no one was interested in the pedigree of a servant. The book closes with Jesus working with His disciples and even washing their feet.

In the Old Testament, God commanded Moses (Numbers 5:2-3) to seperate the lepers from the community. Leprosy is a horrilbe spreadable disease that starts out as a small dot on the skin and slowly eats away the entire body, leaving fatal consequences. Jesus was approached by a man plaqued with the disease, "And there came a leper to him, beseeching him, and kneeling down to him, and saying unto him, If thou wilt, thou canst make me clean. And Jesus, moved with compassion, put forth his hand, and touched him, and saith unto him, I will; be thou clean. And as soon as he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed." (Mark 1:40-42). Leprosy illustrates how even the smallest sin, if continued can plague us, leaving us with devasting consequences.

Today, all who accept Jesus are cleansed, we are cleansed by His precious blood that was shed to save us from all our sins, even those He knows we will commit years from now. What a wonderful gift!

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
We thank you for sacrificing your One and Only Son, Jesus to cleanse us from the disease of sin. The disease spreads from our hearts to our minds separating us from You and making us a bondage slave to Satan. Lord, search my heart today and if there is any wickness in me, reveal it to me and cast it out. Stengthen me and keep me in Your presence so that I continue to walk away from the emotions and temptaions that cause me to sin and crucify You all over again. In Jesus's name.....Amen.

Have a wonderful & blessed day!
God Bless,
Christina
