Today we will be reading about the New Covenant; the perfect sacrifice of Jesus Christ compared to the temporary sacrifices under the Law; and remaing faithful. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that Jesus' ultimate sacrifice replaced all other forms of sacrifice. There is no other way to redemption, but through Jesus Christ.
The Tabernacle and worship system revealed by God to Moses on Mount Sinai was given in much detail. Every detail was important and symbolic of the future single sacrifice the Christ would be on the cross. It consisted of numerous sacrifices which could not cleanse from sins but could only "cover" them temporarily. Jesus replaced Israel's high priest, priests, and all of the sacrificial worship system. "For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein was the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein was the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly." (Hebrews 9:2-5).
Under the Old Covenant worship system, the blood of innocent goats and calves was sacrificed daily for the sins of the worshiper. However, Christ, who is God in the form of Man, shed His own blood innocent blood and ended all that once and for all. "But Christ being come an high priest of good things to come, by a greater and more perfect tabernacle, not made with hands, that is to say, not of this building; Neither by the blood of goats and calves, but by his own blood he entered in once into the holy place, having obtained eternal redemption for us. For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh: How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.." (9:11-15).
The Holy Spirit led Paul to point out that the Old Covenant had looked forward to a more perfect Tabernacle. The words more perfect Tabernacle refer to the bodily manifestation of God the Son. Since the Tabernacle's contents, as well as the Tabernacle itself, symbolized Christ, His life, ministry, and death, as did all of the sacrifices. Animal sacrifices are no longer acceptable because Christ, being a High Priest, became the ultimate sacrifice for all our transgressions (sins). "For Christ is not entered into the holy places made with hands, which are the figures of the true; but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God for us: Nor yet that he should offer himself often, as the high priest entereth into the holy place every year with blood of others; " (9:24-25).
The confession of our faith is a public acknowledgment that we have renounced the world and its lusts to remain loyal to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who has done so much for us.
Today's Prayer:
Dear God,
We are thankful for Your great compassion and enduring patience; that You do not treat us as our sins deserve, but with Your never ending mercy. From everlasting to everlasting Your love is with those who walk with You, who keep Your covenant and obey Your commands. In Jesus' name.........Amen.
Have a wonderful day/night!
God Bless and Merry Christmas,
Christina
