Bible Study: Husbands Love Your Wives

Husbands Love Your Wives 10.17.08

Hello My Friend/Guest,

Today we are continuing our studies on the book of Mark, please read Chapters 10-11 in your Bible or you can Click Here to read them online. If the link does not work you can copy & paste the link to your browser: biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Mark%2010-11&version=9

Today we will read about Jesus teaching on divorce; Jesus blessing children; the rich young ruler; Bartimaeus healed from his blindness; Jesus' triumphal entry into Jerusalem; and Jesus cleansing the Temple. Today's message focuses on the importance of realizing that every marriage has it's ups and downs, but just as Jesus does not give up on us we need to not so easily give up on our mates.

In an effort to have Jesus arrested and, hopefully, executed by Herod, the Pharisees came to Him and tempted Him. "And the Pharisees came to him, and asked him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife? tempting him. And he answered and said unto them, What did Moses command you? And they said, Moses suffered to write a bill of divorcement, and to put her away. " (Mark 10:2-4). Jesus was not intimidated, He quoted from Scripture, "For the hardness of your heart he wrote you this precept. But from the beginning of the creation God made them male and female. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and cleave to his wife; And they twain shall be one flesh: so then they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder." (10:5-9). The responsibility in a marriage relationship lies with the husband, who is to love his wife.

A marriage between a husband and wife is often related the the church and although there are numerous imperfections within the church, Jesus does not give up on it and always seeks other means of uniting people to follow Him. Also, He does not force anyone to be in submission to Him, but allows them to do it willingly. A husband's conduct and compassion toward his wife needs to be like Christ for His Church, this in turn prepares his wife to be in submission to him. "Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; That he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself." (Ephesians 5:24-28). It is imperative that a wife feel secure in her husband's love. It is his responsibility to let her know by word and action how very important she is to him.

God created the world and put Adam in charge of it. He created Eve to be Adam's helpmate. A husband and wife are a team and should be kind each other, tenderhearted, forgiving to one another, even as God has forgiven you. One thing I would like to point out is that God created Eve to help Adam, not to be abused by him. Jesus gave one exception, "And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery:" (Matthew 19:9).

Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
Your creation reveals that You are a lover of beauty, color, simplicity, and creativity. When disunity or rebellion crashes the loving setting that we so greatly desire, help us to reflect Your character of endurance, faithfulness and self -control. Our example as leaders in the home is more often taken notice of when we’re required to deal with the undesirable circumstances of life. May our family, in as much as it is possible, be a reflection of You whom we serve. In Jesus' name......Amen.

Have a wonderful and blessed day!
God Bless,
Christina
