God As Our Refuge 03.12.08
Hello My Friend/Guest,
It is Wednesday March 12, 2008 and today we are completing our study on the book of Deuteronomy. Please read, Deuteronomy 32 -- 34 in your Bible or Click Here to read. In today's study we will read and learn about the song of Moses; Moses blessing the 12 tribes; the death of Moses on Mount Nebo; and Joshua taking charge. Today's message focuses on the blessings given to those who put God first in their lives.
The Israelites were to proclaim greatness to our God, "Give ear, O ye heavens, and I will speak; and hear, O earth, the words of my mouth. My doctrine shall drop as the rain, my speech shall distil as the dew, as the small rain upon the tender herb, and as the showers upon the grass: Because I will publish the name of the LORD: ascribe ye greatness unto our God. He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he." (Deuteronomy 32:1-4). Moses foretold of the blessings and happiness that would be theirs if they lived in obedience to His Word. "And this is the blessing, wherewith Moses the man of God blessed the children of Israel before his death." (33:1).
After conferring spiritual blessings upon each of the tribes, Moses concluded with praise to God. There was spiritual insight in the last words spoken by Moses to the people of the second generation, "The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them. Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of corn and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew. Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places." (33:27-29). There is enough power in His outstretched arms to lift up every downcast person. His love reaches out to care for the most degraded one and to protect and shelter even the weakest. His arms have power unlimited and unconquerable. The everlasting arms are a great comfort to the child of God in the midst of this world's perplexities and conflicts which threaten to discourage, defeat, and destroy us every day.
God is almighty, righteous, holy, and wise. Mankind has wandered far from Him in numberless paths of sin; but He has revealed His love by providing for our return through the atonement of His Son, our Savior Jesus Christ. By the grace of His Holy Spirit He draws us to Himself and saves us from otherwise inevitable ruin so that we may enjoy eternal life with Him. Having God as our refuge does not imply that we will have a great abundance of this world's possessions or will be free from cares and sorrows. Our earthly life is the only opportunity to prepare for eternity. "But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you." (Matthew 6:33)
All trials and sufferings are primarily tests of our faith as well as a means of developing our spiritual insights. We have but one purpose for life and that is above all other things. "Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment." (Matthew 22:37-38).
In today's study Jesus Christ is revealed as our Rock, "He is the Rock, his work is perfect: for all his ways are judgment: a God of truth and without iniquity, just and right is he." (Deuteronomy 32:4). Christ was that spiritual Rock that followed them, "Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea; And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea; And did all eat the same spiritual meat; And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ." (I Corinthians 10:1-4).
Today's Psalm: 46:1-3
"God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah."
Today's Prayer:
Dear Lord,
It is in my hour of need that I see Your powerful provision in my life. When I'm in need of comfort, You are my Comforter. When I'm in need of courage You go before me. When I'm in need of friendship You are my friend that sticks closer than a brother. When I'm in need of stability You are the Anchor for my soul. When I'm in need of finances You own the cattle on a thousand hills. When I'm in need of peace You are the peacemaker. When I'm in need of food You are the Bread of Life. When I'm thirsty You are the living water that leads to eternal life. You are my Shepherd and I shall never be in want of anything becasue You will supply me with all that I need. Thank You, Lord for all that you do for me. In Jesus' name, I pray....Amen.
Have a great and wonderfully blessed day/night.
God Bless,
Christina
