Hello My Friend/Guest,
Today is Saturday January 24, 2009 and we are continuing our studies on teh book of Exodus.
Today's Message: The Ten Commandments
We must not forget about the Ten Commandments no matter how much the nation tries to get us to forget about them. The Law reminds us that none of these relationships with God or man can be ignored.
Today's Bible Reading: Exodus Chapters 20-22
You can read the chapters by clicking on the link above, if the link does not work you can copy and paste this one into your browser: https://www.biblegateway.com/passage/?search=Exodus%2020-22&version=9
The Ten Commandments are the most sacred commandments of the Bible because they were written on stone by the finger of God Himself (See Exodus Chapter 31). "And God spake all these words, saying,I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage." (Exodus 20:1-2). They are an expression of the spiritual and moral conduct of the people of God.
Nine are expressed in a negative way, saying "Thou shalt not", six represent the requirements for our relationship with others, and four express the perfection of the Holy, One True God, who alone is to be worshiped. "Thou shalt have no other gods before me.Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth.Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me; ..............Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh his name in vain..............Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. Thou shalt not kill.Thou shalt not commit adultery.Thou shalt not steal.Thou shalt not bear false witness against thy neighbour.Thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's house, thou shalt not covet thy neighbour's wife, nor his manservant, nor his maidservant, nor his ox, nor his ass, nor any thing that is thy neighbour's." (20:3-5,7,12-17). In an exclusive, covenant relationship, the Lord God must always have priority in our hearts and be our first consideration, without compromise.
We are warned that it is wrong to steal, whether it is done by shoplifting, cheating on income tax, or failing to work when at work. We also are warned that it is wrong to bear false witness against a neighbor, and it is wrong to commit adultery as well as the practices of witchcraft, sorcery, bestiality, and sacrificing to any god other than the One True God (this includes anything that becomes a priory over God). All who were guilty of these sins were to be put to death immediately. We need to remember that obedience should come from the heart. If we have love toward our neighbor,we will not steal his property, commit adultery with his wife, nor commit fornication with his daughter. We will protect and respect his loved ones because they are the property of God just as we are.
True Christians seek to know more of God and learn that not matter what we have done we have a chance to make things right with Him. What peace we have in knowing that when we do fall short of keeping His Word Jesus is right there to redeem us. "Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference:For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:" (Romans 3:22-24).
Jesus Christ is Revealed: Through the Ten Commandments.
Jesus was perfect and without sin and also gave is a new Commandment, "A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another." (John 13:34).
Today's Psalm: 29:3
"The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the LORD is upon many waters."
Today's Prayer:
Dear God,
We pray that You will empower us to live responsible lives so that we can be living examples of what it means to live self-controlled, upright and godly lives in this present age. Help us to resist temptations that weaken our resolve to live holy lives by memorizing and quoting Scripture that speaks to that sinful behavior, even while we’re being tempted. We desire to bring joy to Your heart as we live responsibly and cast off that which hinders our spiritual growth. We want to seek first Your Kingdom and Your righteousness so that we will be kingdom servants pursuing righteous living. In Jesus' name...........Amen.
Have a wonderful day/night and enjoy the rest of your weekend.
God Bless You,
Christina
