Richard Penniman’s Long Tall Sally is uniquely “his†song because no one could understand one line, and he purposely changed them in his copyrighted version. The above are the true words he sings. No one really “got†the words. Listen to them and see if anyone got them right. Richard’s first song is as close as it gets because he didn’t realize that no one really wanted to record it as of that time. Later he was mad because no one paid him the royalties, so he never told them the right words. Then, he got a thrill out of no one knowing. He kept it that way — until now. Maybe forever, because who’s going to read this? How do I know this? That — I will take to my grave.
