Peering through a window darkly
A window that’s not there
Wonder who’s living so starkly
In a place nonexistent and bare
No grass, no trees, no blooming flowers
This place must be quite empty
Who could stay for years, even hours
Wouldn’t leaving be rather tempting
Thoughts wander round in circles
Intertwined with whose?
Pushing past tangles and hurdles
Through a morass we’re bruised
Better to leave well enough alone
Best pretend that it’s not there
We’ve done all that could be done
So close your eyes, don't stare
At a place no one inhabits
At a place that has no door
Not a spider, not a rabbit
Would venture in to explore
The place with no windows
A place with no door
