I am up for re-election this year. I am not sure if you knew this, but I ended up being appointed to the school committee (the position I was running for) when one of the members passed away unexpectedly last winter. I finished out her term and have to run to take the seat on my own. There are 5 candidates for 3 seats, though it could be 4. Our current chair is running for town council, and he is not up for school committee re-election. If he wins the town council seat, his seat will go to the fourth place person. So, I have a 4/5 chance of getting to stay on.

LOL! It sounds like they are going to press for same-sex marriage in the next session. In RI, we have a part-time legislature that generally works January-June, unless there is something that calls them back during the off month, like their massive pension overhaul last year.

Your paintings definitely have a certain feel that captures your art. I don't think that is a bad thing. I actually don't beieve that art has to have a photographic quality. Just look at van Gogh. With that said, it is important that you are getting satisfaction in your art.

I love the idea of you working on a children's book! I am sure you would be great at it.

Well, we had a civil union ceremony last July. We were (likely) the first couple in RI to do it. Made the cover of the statewide newspaper and everything. We have to wait for it to be legal to get married.

And some people were making fun of our governor (Governor Chafee of RI) for saying that one reason to support it was that it would be an economic driver. Those figures definitely support the idea.

I just wished the wheels of justice woud move along more quickly when it came to these folks who are charged with massacres and crimes against humanity. Not only does it take forever to get through the trial, but it also takes so many years for the trial to start!

There is definitely no shortage of helicopter parents out there. I see that sometimes with teaching, and I definitely saw that in my old job, when I was working primarily with teens. One good thing about those kinds of parents is that it does mean they care. With that said, it often stunts the development of maturity and independence in the children.

We definitely see some of a lot of loving families of all varieties, but we also see the other end of the spectrum. We get kids who come with their group home counselors as well as troubled kids who come to the library for community service requirements from the courts. The library spans the spectrum of society.

Ray is doing well. The swelling is almost all gone, and he does seem to have avoided the potential bruising/black eye, which is good. He is finding it easier to eat and talk, and he is being good about doing his smiling exercises to help with averting scar tissue.

I think the functional family we find on television and in literature is a fairy tale. That does not mean that many children are lucky to be in a loving family that provides them with all of the necessary support. It just means that the makeup is not traditional. One of the benefits of my job is that I get to see so many wonderful families! It is a shame that so many young people do not have that type of family, but there is hope.

You poor guy! It sounds like a difficult time. It is never fun to go through a 24-hour bug like that! I am glad you are back on your feet!

Thanks for the review. Very insightful. I have to admit that I was worried about how they were going to conclude the trilogy, and it sounds like that was for good reason. one of the troubles I have with some of these superhero tales in recent years is that we seem to have lost the ability to allow them to be tru heroes. They need to be human and full of faults rather than something superhuman to strive toward. I understand that it is a reflection of all the negativity in our modern daily lives. With that said I miss that innocent/naive ability to dream big and strive toward true goodness.

I am so glad about the positive results. While it does mean they don't have a solution to all your pain and discomfort, it does mean they could rule out some really nasty options.

Maybe they will get lucky with the antibiotics!
