The attack upon Pearl Harbor may have been, as you say, "entirely unexpected" by the general populace, but I have a learned friend who is a historian and he says it was no surprise to Roosevelt, that allowing our guard to be let down was his way of legitimizing our country entering the war.
I need to re-matriculate in 6th grade...
I agree with troutbend... there are idiots out there who are incapable of understanding the risks involved. Plus, that looks like a Corvette, and anyone who spends their money for one of those is not someone I'd want on my team...
Good, old time stuff!!
Totally agree re those obnoxious persons yakking on cellphones in public!! I may see if someone makes a miniature airhorn I can carry to blast at them.
My heart goes out to Ted. If it's Agent Orange, as you suspect, that was bad, bad stuff. Vietnamese and Americans alike have suffered from it for decades, without much success in the courts. A Brooklyn U.S. Dist. Court in '05 dismissed a lawsuit against Monsanto, Dow Chem, and others, ruling that the defendants, as contractors of the US gov't, shared sovereign immunity. The 2nd Dist Court of Appeal upheld the ruling, and the US Sup. Court declined to hear it. Even tho' it contained dioxin, a known poison, it was not considered a chemical weapon & not intended for use against humans (as opposed to plant life!)and thus not a violation of international law. Unbelievable!! I've lost a number of friends who were exposed to Agent Orange. Of course, the Vietnamese people have REALLY suffered from it. Meanwhile, we have the nerve to rail against prospect of other countries using chemical weapons.
Not much holiday spirit? My kinda cat...
Makes me sleepy just lookin' at it.
Wow, one over!!! That's very good, buddy. While you were hitting that little ball around the course, I was having a root canal...
Burcher sounds like a great place for a stop. Nice report, Kev.
Your cousin has a serious mental illness that I just can't put my finger on...
This one's a little too schmaltzy for me... I preferred the Peter story.
At the risk of appearing plebeian... we save lots of clean up time by using paper plates! Conserves water as well as time and energy. You may not credit this, but good food tastes just as good off a paper plate as expensive china.
