Today's Chapters: Psalms 85-89
Message Title: Walking With Jesus
As Christians it is important to develop a relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ, the second one calls on Him to save them the relationship begins. Just like any relationship, it takes time getting to know one another, but if you never make an effort the relationship will never develop into very much. Jesus has one advantage over us, He knows all about us, but we can learn about Him so we can have a good, solid relationship that will last for eternity. “I will hear what God the LORD will speak: for he will speak peace unto his people, and to his saints: but let them not turn again to folly. Surely his salvation is nigh them that fear him; that glory may dwell in our land. Mercy and truth are met together; righteousness and peace have kissed each other. Truth shall spring out of the earth; and righteousness shall look down from heaven. Yea, the LORD shall give that which is good; and our land shall yield her increase. Righteousness shall go before him; and shall set us in the way of his steps.†- Psalm 85:8-13.
Jesus Christ is the righteousness of all who believe in and accept Him as their Savior, no matter how good we try to be our sin nature makes it impossible to live righteously all the time. That is why our righteousness cannot get us to God on our own, and why we need Jesus Christ. “Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;†- Romans 3:22-25.
Let's face it, since every born again child of God will have their sin nature in them while they are here on earth, we must develop a relationship with God, that seeks His mercy and grace daily. “Bow down thine ear, O LORD, hear me: for I am poor and needy. Preserve my soul; for I am holy: O thou my God, save thy servant that trusteth in thee. Be merciful unto me, O Lord: for I cry unto thee daily. Rejoice the soul of thy servant: for unto thee, O Lord, do I lift up my soul. For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee. Teach me thy way, O LORD; I will walk in thy truth: unite my heart to fear thy name.†- Psalm 86:1-5,11.
God truly is merciful to us, and ready to forgive us, in fact, He already has when we went to the cross, but in order to have a blessed life here and to be rewarded with amazing gifts from God in heaven it is wise to admit our sin and seek God's help in removing everything that strains our relationship with Him. “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.†- Revelation 3:15-19.
Sometimes no matter what you do, it feels as though you are being punished and there is no end to it. We cry out to God, but no answer comes, all we see is a big hole that we are in and cannot get out of. “Thou hast laid me in the lowest pit, in darkness, in the deeps. Thy wrath lieth hard upon me, and thou hast afflicted me with all thy waves. Selah. Thou hast put away mine acquaintance far from me; thou hast made me an abomination unto them: I am shut up, and I cannot come forth. Mine eye mourneth by reason of affliction: LORD, I have called daily upon thee, I have stretched out my hands unto thee.†- Psalm 88:6-9.
While God will chastise us, His chastisements do not last forever, and more often than not, you are not being punished at all, but merely being proved by God whether or not you will remain faithful to Him to receive His blessings. “Now no chastening for the present seemeth to be joyous, but grievous: nevertheless afterward it yieldeth the peaceable fruit of righteousness unto them which are exercised thereby.†- Hebrews 12:11.
God promises that although we may be afflicted from time to time, even of our own doing, He will not leave nor forsake us. “If his children forsake my law, and walk not in my judgments; If they break my statutes, and keep not my commandments; Then will I visit their transgression with the rod, and their iniquity with stripes. Nevertheless my lovingkindness will I not utterly take from him, nor suffer my faithfulness to fail. My covenant will I not break, nor alter the thing that is gone out of my lips.†- Psalm 89:30-34.
Nothing in this world is secure, in an instant everything can be turned upside down, but Jesus is, and He will never let us go through anything without Him. My favorite poem is, Footprints In The Sand, it reminds us that when everything looks hopeless and we feel all alone, that is when we are being carried by Jesus Himself. “Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.†- Matthew 11:28-30.
Today's Prayer: Jesus, I come to You with an open heart, I want a long, lasting relationship with You before I get to meet you in heaven. I am sorry if I have put a strain on our relationship, give me Your grace and strength to remain faithful to You, to learn of, and walk with You every day. Sometimes the cares of this world want to test me, tempt me, and devour me, but as long as I walk with You I know I can overcome them all. I love You, Jesus. Amen.
God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
