Sinners Saved by Grace

Today's Chapters: Psalms 1-8
Message Title: Sinners Saved By Grace

The Book of Psalms is the nineteenth book of the Old Testament/Bible and contains one hundred-fifty chapters. The author of the book is mostly David, but a few other men also. The book was first written to the Israelites and it's purpose was to show them that prayer, praise, confession, and intercession are an important part in worshiping God. It is the song, prayer and praise book of the Bible. What we are to learn from the book is that all who delight in having God in their lives will prosper. “And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.” - Psalms 1:3.

The Book of Psalms, are the prayers, hymns, and songs, of David and few other men, like us, knew they were sinners saved by grace. They rejoiced over the joys that God brought them, cried over their sorrows, sought forgiveness of sin, pleaded with God, had questions for Him, and even praised Him when they were afflicted by their own willful doings. The first Psalm reminds us that the key to prosperity and blessings from God in the wicked world is living in His Word.

“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful. But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: but are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: but the way of the ungodly shall perish.” - Psalms 1.

If you pay close attention to the Psalmists, you will notice an amazing revelation, they too knew that Jesus was their Lord and Savior just as He is ours. “Why do the heathen rage, and the people imagine a vain thing? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the LORD, and against his anointed, saying, Let us break their bands asunder, and cast away their cords from us. He that sitteth in the heavens shall laugh: the Lord shall have them in derision. Then shall he speak unto them in his wrath, and vex them in his sore displeasure. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.” - Psalms 2:1-5,12.

The people of the Old Testament looked to what Jesus would do on the cross for their salvation, today, we look to what Jesus did on the cross for ours. Those who believe in Christ, before or after He died on the cross to save them are one of God's.“But know that the LORD hath set apart him that is godly for himself: the LORD will hear when I call unto him. Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah. Offer the sacrifices of righteousness, and put your trust in the LORD. There be many that say, Who will shew us any good? LORD, lift thou up the light of thy countenance upon us. Thou hast put gladness in my heart, more than in the time that their corn and their wine increased. I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, LORD, only makest me dwell in safety.” - Psalms 4:3-8.

The word Selah is written in the Book of Psalms seventy-one times, it means to think about what has been said. God saw David as the apple of His eye, yet he was without sin, none of us is without sin, when you stop to think just how merciful God is and that He saves all who believe in His Son, regardless of what they did, we too can rejoice with David. “Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation. Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray. My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up. For thou art not a God that hath pleasure in wickedness: neither shall evil dwell with thee. Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face. But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.” - Psalms 5:1-4,8,11.

God's judgment is upon all who sin, and whether we are saved or not, we still must face the consequences of our actions. God's judgment is just and we need to accept His judgment as He gives it, but that does not mean that we will never be forgiven. “The LORD shall judge the people: judge me, O LORD, according to my righteousness, and according to mine integrity that is in me. Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end; but establish the just: for the righteous God trieth the hearts and reins. I will praise the LORD according to his righteousness: and will sing praise to the name of the LORD most high.” - Psalm 7:8,9,17.

The amazing thing is that no matter how many times we mess up, no matter how many times we kick, scream, and walk away, God never gives up on us because He knows our hearts and if they are trusting only that Christ can save them then they will be saved from the fire. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind. Be not thou therefore ashamed of the testimony of our Lord, nor of me his prisoner: but be thou partaker of the afflictions of the gospel according to the power of God; Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began, But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:” - 2 Timothy 1:7-10. Praise God!

Today's Prayer: God, I want to live my live according to Your will, I know that often comes with some challenges. Lord, You are my comfort, my peace, and my joy through my challenges, but much too often I let them blind me from seeing that I am a sinner saved by grace, that You love me, and that You are putting me through this for a reason. Give me Your power to endure my challenges, judge me according to my integrity and not my doubt because I truly believe that You will bring all to pass and show me the victory. In Jesus' name. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
