Today's Chapters: Psalms 9-17
Message Title: Where To Seek And Find Your Desires
The word seek means to go in search or quest of; to look for; to search for by going from place to place. Everyone of us is on a quest, searching for something we long for, perhaps it is work, wealth, fame, or love, that you seek. Regardless of what it is, if we want to find it and have something to show for it, we must seek God first. “Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed? (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.†- Matthew 6:30-33.
Believe it or not, when we are living a moral life, we are happier than those living immorally, of course, they have their fun, seem to get away with everything, and seem to have everyone wrapped around their finger, but in the end they will have nothing to show for it. If we seek God first and keep living morally, there is nothing He will not do for us. “I will praise thee, O LORD, with my whole heart; I will shew forth all thy marvellous works. I will be glad and rejoice in thee: I will sing praise to thy name, O thou most High. When mine enemies are turned back, they shall fall and perish at thy presence. O thou enemy, destructions are come to a perpetual end: and thou hast destroyed cities; their memorial is perished with them. But the LORD shall endure for ever: he hath prepared his throne for judgment. And he shall judge the world in righteousness, he shall minister judgment to the people in uprightness. The LORD also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge in times of trouble. And they that know thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, LORD, hast not forsaken them that seek thee. The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.†- Psalms 9:1-3,6-10,17.
Nations that forget God, what an understatement. History proves time and time again how prosperous a nation is that makes God Lord, but one of destruction and poverty when they cast Him away. The modern, common core, history books will not tell you the real reason why nations fall, but the truth is, any nation that rejects God will be judged, and many are being judged today. Why? We have too many elected officials, and people who elected them, living immoral lives to seek the things they desire. “The fool hath said in his heart, There is no God. They are corrupt, they have done abominable works, there is none that doeth good. The LORD looked down from heaven upon the children of men, to see if there were any that did understand, and seek God. They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge? who eat up my people as they eat bread, and call not upon the LORD. There were they in great fear: for God is in the generation of the righteous. Ye have shamed the counsel of the poor, because the LORD is his refuge.†- Psalms 14:1-6.
Probably the most amazing thing about God apart from His endless mercy and grace, is His ability to take care of His people. The second we believe in and accept Jesus Christ as our Savior, we not only are saved from hell, we become part of His family, we are part of an inheritance, that is unmovable. No matter how good it seems that the wicked have it, in the end, they will have nothing, but we will have it all. “The LORD is the portion of mine inheritance and of my cup: thou maintainest my lot. The lines are fallen unto me in pleasant places; yea, I have a goodly heritage. I will bless the LORD, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons. I have set the LORD always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved. Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope. For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.†- Psalms 16:5-10.
We must remember, that we are not alone, no matter how much we are mocked, criticized, or persecuted, God is with us. I taught my Sunday school class that in order to get gold to be beautiful and shiny it has to be heated up and liquefied under extreme temperatures, well, God does the same thing with us, He allows affliction to come into our lives to beautify us. If we are seeking the things that we desire, it's crucial that we allow God to purify us, He will make us as gold, and He will give us our desires. “Hear the right, O LORD, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my prayer, that goeth not out of feigned lips. Let my sentence come forth from thy presence; let thine eyes behold the things that are equal. Thou hast proved mine heart; thou hast visited me in the night; thou hast tried me, and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress. Hold up my goings in thy paths, that my footsteps slip not. I have called upon thee, for thou wilt hear me, O God: incline thine ear unto me, and hear my speech. Shew thy marvellous lovingkindness, O thou that savest by thy right hand them which put their trust in thee from those that rise up against them. Keep me as the apple of the eye, hide me under the shadow of thy wings,†- Psalms 17:1-8.
“Behold, behold, I stand at the door and knock, knock, knock. Behold, behold, I stand at the door, and knock, knock, knock. Should any man hear my voice, should any man hear my voice, and will open, open, open the door, I will come in.†This is a verse to a popular children's Sunday school song, and actually comes from a verse in the Bible. All day long, Jesus stands at the door of our hearts, He knocks, and knocks, just waiting for us to open the door of our hearts and let Him in. He promises that if we do that, we will receive the things we are seeking. The amazing thing is, once He comes into our heart, the things we use to desire get replaced by the things that God desires for us. “I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see. As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent. Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.†- Revelation 3:18-21.
Today's Prayer: God, It truly is amazing how just, merciful, and gracious You are toward all of us, You never stop trying to get a heart to open to believe in Your Son. Lord, You know the desires of my heart, I ask that they be in line with Your desires for me. Lead me and guide my feet to walk the path You have chosen for me. Give me the power and strength that only You can give me to go Your way. In Jesus' name. Amen.
God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
