Removing the Chain of Doubt

Date: Saturday, June 14, 2014
Today's Chapters: Psalms 33-36
Message Title: Removing The Chain Of Doubt

No matter how strong our faith in God, we all have times in our lives where we get discouraged about life itself. Sometimes I think that God has me wandering around in the wilderness because I doubted Him one time too many, and perhaps I am not too far from that truth. Doubt is the devil's longest chain to break free from, it's not a doubt that the all powerful God cannot do anything, it's the doubt that the all powerful God can do anything in me. So, how do we break free from the chain of doubt? Walk in the Spirit. “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God. For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.”- Romans 8:14-16,26.

The most important thing we need to remember is that everything God says goes, whatever He promises, that He will do, whatever He commands, that we are to do. The key phrase we need to remember is, “Fear God.” If we want to break the chain of doubt we need to fear God. “For the word of the LORD is right; and all his works are done in truth. He loveth righteousness and judgment: the earth is full of the goodness of the LORD. By the word of the LORD were the heavens made; and all the host of them by the breath of his mouth. He gathereth the waters of the sea together as an heap: he layeth up the depth in storehouses. Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. For he spake, and it was done; he commanded, and it stood fast.” - Psalms 33:4-9.

Fearing God does not mean to be afraid of Him, it means to honor and respect Him, to be in awe of all His goodness. God takes care of those who believe in Him and fear Him. “Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance. The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. From the place of his habitation he looketh upon all the inhabitants of the earth. Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine. Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield. For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name. Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.” - Psalms 33:12-14,18-22.

God does not give His inheritance to just anyone, He only gives it to those who believe in and receive, His Son, Jesus Christ, as their Savior. He is the only one who can save our soul, He is the only one who can bring joy to our soul. “How much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God? And for this cause he is the mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were under the first testament, they which are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance.” - Hebrews 9:14,15.

Our soul is a bit strange, it seeks to be loved and cherished, just like anything else, but we need to be careful of our flesh, it will do anything to feed the soul, and the soul can be deceived by it, which is why we get caught up in a mess of trouble lead by doubt. Thankfully we have the all powerful, and merciful God, willing to help us out of that trouble. “The face of the LORD is against them that do evil, to cut off the remembrance of them from the earth. The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. The LORD is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit. Many are the afflictions of the righteous: but the LORD delivereth him out of them all. He keepeth all his bones: not one of them is broken. Evil shall slay the wicked: and they that hate the righteous shall be desolate. The LORD redeemeth the soul of his servants: and none of them that trust in him shall be desolate.” - Psalms 34:16-22.

It is amazing how much mercy and grace God has upon His children, I truly believe that most of the afflictions we face are due to our own doubts of ourselves. I do not know how many times I question by ability to do the things I know I am fully capable of doing, and have done before. It's like an excessive compulsive disorder, we will never change our circumstances as long as we keep believing that same lines we keep telling ourselves. We cannot believe in God and at the same time not believe that He can change our circumstances. “If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” - James 1:5-8.

It is often said that our biggest enemy is ourselves, but it is the devil who is the ring leader of placing all that doubt in us in the first place. It is time to plead with God to get the devil to get off your back, and while you are at it, tell the devil yourself. “Plead my cause, O LORD, with them that strive with me: fight against them that fight against me. Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me, and said, Aha, aha, our eye hath seen it. This thou hast seen, O LORD: keep not silence: O Lord, be not far from me. Stir up thyself, and awake to my judgment, even unto my cause, my God and my Lord. Judge me, O LORD my God, according to thy righteousness; and let them not rejoice over me. Let them not say in their hearts, Ah, so would we have it: let them not say, We have swallowed him up. Let them be ashamed and brought to confusion together that rejoice at mine hurt: let them be clothed with shame and dishonour that magnify themselves against me.” - Psalms 35:1,21-26.

There are times when I just start screaming through the house, “Get out of here, devil!”. While I scare my family half to death, it really does start to remove the links of the chain of doubt. Remember, God did not give us the spirit of fear, but of power, that power comes as we walk in His Spirit. “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.” - 2 Timothy 1:7.

Today's Prayer: God, I admit that the chain of doubt does weigh me down, it keeps me from breaking free from it's bondage. I know I cannot change my circumstances living in doubt and fear of myself, but I can change them walking in Your Spirit. Lord, give me Your power, love, and a sound mind, remove from me all the doubts I have about myself, and give me wonderful thoughts of hope as I remind myself that nothing is impossible with You. In Jesus' name. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
