Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled

Today's Chapters: Job 17-20
Message Title: Let Not Your Heart Be Troubled

There are times in our lives where we absolutely have no idea what is going on, no matter where we turn, we hit a wall, not matter how much we work, nothing gets done. It is times like these that we just have to step back, collect our thoughts, and give them all over to God. While it may seem as though He does not hear us, He hears every word, even the ones deep down in our heart that we are afraid to even speak of or do not know ourselves. “And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.” - 1 John 3:19-22.

Job might not have understood what was happening to Him, but he did understand that God was keeping his friends from understanding that he was innocent. “Are there not mockers with me? and doth not mine eye continue in their provocation? For thou hast hid their heart from understanding: therefore shalt thou not exalt them. Upright men shall be astonied at this, and the innocent shall stir up himself against the hypocrite. The righteous also shall hold on his way, and he that hath clean hands shall be stronger and stronger. But as for you all, do ye return, and come now: for I cannot find one wise man among you. My days are past, my purposes are broken off, even the thoughts of my heart. They change the night into day: the light is short because of darkness.”- Job 17:2,4,8-12.

Often, the circumstances we face do change our hearts constantly, literally, within minutes you could be optimistic and that everything is going to be okay, then all of a sudden feel hopeless, and that there is no end to the suffering. It is times like these when we really need to pour our hearts out to God, with all that we are feeling. God knows whats going on, and we do not even have to say a lot, all we need to do is speak His name. I find myself doing this a lot, especially when I have been holding everything in for a long time, trying to be strong. When we are weak, Christ gives us strength to keep going, even when we have no idea what is going on. “For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.” - 2 Corinthians 12:8-10.

Bildad speaks a second time, the first time, he at least gave him some good advice and encouragement to seek God, but this time he scolds him, and harshly too. “How long will it be ere ye make an end of words? mark, and afterwards we will speak. Yea, the light of the wicked shall be put out, and the spark of his fire shall not shine. The light shall be dark in his tabernacle, and his candle shall be put out with him. The steps of his strength shall be straitened, and his own counsel shall cast him down. For he is cast into a net by his own feet, and he walketh upon a snare. Surely such are the dwellings of the wicked, and this is the place of him that knoweth not God.” - Job 18:2,5-8,21.

Bildad, was wrong on several accounts here, first of all, he came to the conclusion that Job couldn't see God because he would not admit he was a sinner. Many people make the mistake of assuming that a person is being judged of God because they must have some hidden sin in there lives. This is what Jesus speaks of when He says, “Judge not that ye be not judged.” We are all sinners and deserve the same judgment as everyone else. It is only by the mercy and grace of God that we are not all cast into hell. “Judge not, that ye be not judged. For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.” - Matthew 7:1,2.

As Job was hearing more criticism from his friends, something clicked, he did not have justify himself to his friends because he has a Redeemer, who will do it for him. “How long will ye vex my soul, and break me in pieces with words? These ten times have ye reproached me: ye are not ashamed that ye make yourselves strange to me. And be it indeed that I have erred, mine error remaineth with myself. If indeed ye will magnify yourselves against me, and plead against me my reproach: Know now that God hath overthrown me, and hath compassed me with his net. Why do ye persecute me as God, and are not satisfied with my flesh? For I know that my redeemer liveth, and that he shall stand at the latter day upon the earth: And though after my skin worms destroy this body, yet in my flesh shall I see God:” - Job 19:2-6,22,25,26.

I know how Job feels, sometimes you finally open your heart to tell someone how you feel inside, only to get criticized and persecuted for feeling what you are feeling. While it may seem like no one understands, and that you are constantly trying to defend yourself, God does, and He is the only one we need. We are justified, not my anything we have done, but by our Redeemer. “For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world; Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ; Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.” - Titus 2:11-14. Praise God!

Today's Prayer: God, Thank You for sending Your Son to redeem me, I know I am not saved by any righteousness of my own, but by my faith and trust in what He did for me. Because I am redeemed I know that You are always with me, but sometimes I feel like I am in the dark. I catch myself trying to handle my troubles on my own instead of asking You for help and I know that is why I lose all hope that things will change for me. Lord, give me Your power to see past my troubles and look to You, as I do my part by faith I know You will do Your part and I will see the Light. In Jesus' name. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
